Small Town Celebrity

Everyone is guessing what the big news is. No we've not moving to Ohio, no we didn't win the lottery, no it's not a gender reveal, no we're not having twins...

We are featured in the August 2014 edition of Woman's Day Magazine!! Not quite what you expected, huh? ;)

Back in March, Abigail and I had flown to Ohio to visit my family. Matthan had to stay back for work and school. One day I got a call from him, and he mentioned that his parents offered for us to move in with them. My first thought was, "Why on earth would I want to do that??"

Matthan was going to school part time and working two part time jobs. We were definitely stuck in a rut and there seemed to be no end in sight! If he was to keep to that lifestyle, he wouldn't graduate until 2018 at age 28. That did NOT sit well for us, nor his parents.

Hubby said that it was just an idea, to think about it, and we all would sit down and discuss it when we got back to Arizona. I had a week or two left on my little vacation so I had some time to consider it.

  • Would we get along, or would we want to kill each other?
  • How would we divide up the house?
  • Would Matthan and I have to sleep in one of the empty bedrooms?
  • Which bathrooms would be available for us and would we need a bathroom schedule?

There were so many things that could go wrong with this. Who really wants to live with their in-laws? No offense guys... I'm sure this happens more often than not but I never thought it would happen to me!

One day while I was browsing Pinterest, I came across this blog that announced she was going to be doing a blog series about living in a multi-generational house. Her blog is titled Four Generations One Roof. I thought, "Hey, I might be living in a multi-generational house soon!" I read through it and was enlightened. This woman lives with her husband and kids, her parents, AND her grandparents! In one house! And I thought I was going to have troubles with just Matthan's parents...

I left a comment saying that I would be moving in with my in-laws in the next few months and this was just what I needed to read. Within the next week, I got an email from one of the contributors to Woman's Day magazine. She read my comment and wanted to know if she could write a story about us moving in with my in-laws! How cool!

At first, I wasn't sure about it. I couldn't tell if it was a scam or not. We eventually emailed back and forth quite a few times, and I even Google'd her name and Woman's Day magazine came up. That's when I knew this was for real.

I talked with my mother in law about it and she said it would be alright to do the article. I was so excited! I have never done anything like this before! Matthan and I had a few phone interviews with the correspondent and my in laws had a few of their own. We originally thought the article was going to come out in the June edition, but it ended up being in the August one.

Long story short, we moved in with my in laws, everything is great, Matthan is going to school full time and is on track to graduate May 2016 and is working at a new job at an up and coming IT company. AND WE ARE FEATURED IN A MAGAZINE!!! Sorry if this wasn't as great news as you thought it was going to be, but I'm excited about it. :)

If you aren't a subscriber to the magazine you can pick up a copy, or just browse through it, at your local Barnes & Noble. We are literally the last story in the magazine, so just start from the back, turn one page and you'll find it! Happy reading! :)
